Braddah Kimo’s Da Bomb Extreme Rum
I love the concept of this offering. A rum that really packs a punch…77.5% alcohol or 155 proof! With one notable exception (Bacardi’s 151), you don’t really find (without a whole lot of beating the bushes) rum with this high of an alcohol content. That portion alone made this a pretty unique entry into the world of Killer Hooch.I have to admit that the flavoring of 151, the big name in this category, isn’t impressive. It’s got a high alcohol taste and packs the punch of jet fuel. You’ve always got to have some on hand though to mix up one of my favorite cocktails…the Hurricane.
From the time I opened the bottle I knew Da Bomb was going to different. The smell was a nice warm buttery fragrance. The taste was that same delicious, butterscotch candy flavor as their Maui Gold…just a little more “intense.” Despite the fact it has more alcohol than Bacardi’s 151, the taste isn’t overwhelming. This isn’t jet fuel. It’s a flavorful delight that doesn’t take your breath away. Yes, this is a 77.5% alcohol rum you could “sip” if you so desired.
My desire though was my beloved Hurricane (hey, Maui Rum did send their Gold, a dark and their Da Bomb rum…perfect for mixing up some Hurricanes). I broke out the Pat O’Brien’s (the only mix you should use by the way…anything else is far inferior) and mixed up my “Maui Gold, Maui Dark, Da Bomb” Hurricane.
Wow, perfect! That is one great Hurricane! Way to go Braddah Kimo…Da Bomb is Da Killah Hooch!
