Tom Fassler Award
|
If you take a moment to reflect on your life, how many people are there in your life that really have helped form who you are today? If there was a way you could inventory such a thing, you’d probably be surprised how few of those people in your life there really are. I, along with my family and many close friends, lost such a person. Tom Fassler was my Dad’s best friend and his partner on the police force. His kids were the best friends with my sister and I. Our families vacationed together. He was in my life since the day I was born.
In life he was a tower of strength. A policeman. A former pitcher in the Cardinal’s minor league system. The consummate family man. A definite role model. Simply someone I’ve always admired and looked up to. It hurts me to the core that he is no longer here. Because he has been so important in my life and with who I am today, I’m going to give out a yearly award in his name.
Tom always enjoyed laughter. The Tom J. Fassler Award will be bestowed on the person who is deemed the funniest on the PIT during that football year (as voted on by his/her fellow owners). There isn’t a cash prize or a trophy with this award. Instead, you simply get recognized on this page along with Tom. If you knew the man, as I did, you would realize what a great honor that distinction really is.

Special Note
While sharing plans of this award with close friends and family of Tom, a donor (who would like to be kept anonymous) has offered to throw in a $50 gift certificate to Cusanelli’s for our yearly award winner. This is really a special tribute as Tom enjoyed a healthy appetite. Additionally, Cusanelli’s is a Lemay institution and he was a proud lifelong Lemay resident. One favor to ask of the winner; please get dessert
Tom would have!

Oh, He Had Moves!
|
| That’s Tom in the back center and three of his kids in the middle (Thomas, Jenny & Chris). That’s Larry Akley in the back/right and the Commish on the far left. Just having some fun in the sun at the Lake of the Ozarks. |

Here’s Tom dancing with my Mom in a 1987 photo. My Mom claims he once threw his back out dipping her during a dance. The validity of that statement remains unconfirmed though! |

Heading Out For A Night Out On The Town
|
| Many from the A.F.L. got the opportunity to meet Tom a few years back at my house. I had a big Christmas bash and had him show up unannounced in a Santa suit as a surprise guest. Without a doubt one of the best parties we ever had (we STILL talk about that party all the time). Tom’s appearance really made it an extra special event. |
